The Board of Equalization (BOE) is responsible for reviewing appeals on Real Estate submitted by owners/representatives of tracts and parcels of land in Platte County. The board has the authority to lower, keep the same, or raise the valuation of parcels.
Informal hearings can be requested directly to the Assessor’s Office. This means the taxpayer and Assessor’s office meet to discuss the valuation. This process goes through the end of June. If a person could not reach a new agreement with the Assessor’s Office, is not pleased with the results of an informal hearing, or would prefer to communicate directly with the Board of Equalization, the BOE hearings are held during the month of July each year.
All requests for BOE appeals must be made through the Clerk's Office. Information can be found online or paper copies of the application are available in the Clerk’s Office at 415 3rd Street, Room 116, Platte City, MO 64079. The Clerk’s Office is located in the Administrative Building to the north of the Courthouse. Completed forms must be postmarked or turned in by 4 pm on the 2nd Monday in July.
State Tax Commission hearings can be scheduled after filing with the Board of Equalization. The State Tax Commission filing deadline is 30 days following the final action of the BOE or September 30th, whichever is later.
