Commission Supports Circuit Court’s Proposed Pretrial Services Expansion Program
On Monday the Commission passed a resolution in support of the Platte County Circuit Court’s plans to implement a Missouri Pretrial Services Expansion Program. If approved by the Supreme Court of Missouri, the program could become a model for expansion of the pretrial services process in Missouri with anticipated benefits to protect the public, ensure the rights of defendants, support the fair and
efficient administration of justice in pretrial decision making, and develop cost-effective policies. See the attached resolution. Judge Shafer is leading the Circuit Court’s efforts to secure this pilot program for Platte County and the Commission overwhelmingly supports the Judge’s efforts to expand pretrial services in Platte County.
Bridge Replacement Bid Awarded
On Monday the Commission approved a bid from T&B Trucking and Excavating, LLC to replace County Line Road North bridge and the County Line South bridge. The total cost for the two bridge replacements will be $1,696,515.70. Construction is expected to begin around November 2024, weather permitting and should be completed sometime in early to mid-Spring of 2025.
County Courthouse Improvements Out to Bid
On Monday August 5th, the County Commission approved advertisement of bids for improvements to the County Courthouse which will include a base bid package adding a new courtroom on the second floor, expanding the Division 4 courtroom, and security improvements at the Courthouse entrance. The County has included an add alternate bid package which would expand the Division 2 courtroom, provide for larger meeting rooms on the second floor, and include a mother’s room. These improvements would be awarded if bids are within the budget. The bids are due September 4th.

Detention Center Update
In 2023 the County awarded a contract to upgrade the secured electronics system of the detention center and modifications to secured doors which recently started and will be completed in September. The County currently has 47 inmates housed out in other facilities with 23 of these inmates relocated to allow the contractor to complete the work within each of the seven pods within the center.

The County will be closed Labor Day, September 2nd, and the regularly scheduled Administration and ARPA sessions will be moved to Tuesday September 3rd starting at 10a.m. The Commissioners will have their regularly scheduled work session on that Tuesday also starting at 9a.m. The County has a notification system set up at https://www.co.platte.mo.us/Register for anyone who would like to receive copies of agendas, alerts, and job postings.
