Welcome to Platte County, Missouri! Whether you're from out-of-state or from another Missouri county, you’ll find useful information and links to ensure a smooth transition.


Personal Property Taxes

In Missouri, you pay taxes on any personal property that you owned or held on the first day of January each year. Tax bills are mailed by the Collector's Office each November and are due no later than December 31.

  • Resident on or before January 1 of this year: contact the Assessor to receive an assessment form prior to March 1. Forms must be returned or completed online by March 1 to avoid late fees.
  • Resident after January 1 of this year: notify the Assessor with your new address and the date you moved to receive an assessment form the following year.

Register a Vehicle

Moving from Another State

You have 30 days to obtain Missouri license plates and a Missouri driver's license. To obtain Missouri plates, the DMV will need:

  • Title, application for title, or registration for the vehicle
  • Proof of insurance
  • Missouri State Inspection Certificate
  • Resident on January 1 or before: valid tax receipt from the Platte County Collector's Office
  • Resident after January 1: tax waiver from the Platte County Assessor's Office(How to Obtain a Tax Waiver)

Moving from Another Missouri County: To license your vehicle in Platte County, you will need:

  • Title, application for title, or registration of the vehicle
  • Proof of insurance
  • Missouri State Inspection Certificate
  • Copy of the tax receipt showing taxes paid from the county where you were a resident on January 1 of the previous year. NOTE: You may need two previous year’s personal property tax receipts.
